Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Haleakala

Haleakala National Park

Take in the stunning beauty of a sunrise at the top of Mount Haleakala. The drive from Grand Wailea Maui is approximately 52 miles, but the winding turns of the roads can make this trip about a three-hour drive to the top. Trust us, it is well worth the drive. And remember to bundle up - with elevations 10,000 feet above sea level, it can get very chilly up there! This is truly a unique Maui experience that will leave everlasting memories.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Helicopter View

Helicopter Tours

Ready for an adventure of a lifetime? Soar with the birds above the clouds on a helicopter tour and enjoy incredible views of Haleakala, unreachable waterfalls, and a breathtaking bird's eye view of Maui. Plus, helicopter tours are available offering views of Molokai and the Big Island. Tours range from 1 to 4 hours in length.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Humpback Whale

Whale Watching Tours

Get ready to be amazed! Humpback whale watching tours are typically available from November through May as pods of whales migrate to Maui's warm waters from Alaska. Humpbacks can grow up to 50 feet long, weighing approximately 80,000 pounds, making them the 5th largest whale. Watching these beautiful, strong animals in their natural environment is a surreal experience that is sure to be remembered forever.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Molokini Crater

Molokini Crater

Imagine a snorkel trip of a lifetime in exceptionally clear water with visibility up to 150 feet. Molokini Crater is located a few miles off of Maui's Makena coast and is home to an array of fish and marine life. What makes Molokini unique is its famous bow shape, which provides natural barriers against the rough Pacific currents and waves. This means that the water nearby is typically very calm and clear - making it the ideal spot for snorkelers to view the reef and marine life below. Choose from a variety of boat tours, most of which leave in the early morning hours.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Road to Hana Bridge

Road To Hana

If you are looking for adventure, this is an experience you won't want to miss! The 'Road to Hana' is a breathtaking scenic ride totaling 64.4 miles stretching across winding roads, hairpin turns and one-lane bridges. This famous Maui drive starts in Kahului and ends in the quiet town of Hana. As the saying goes, this adventure is more about the journey, not the destination. Along the way, stop at a variety of hiking spots, botanical gardens, waterfalls, scenic outlooks, and even a bamboo forest and a black sands beach at Wai'napanapa State Park. Our recommendation is to leave Grand Wailea Maui before 8:00 a.m. - this will give you enough time to see as many attractions along the drive before making the trip back to Wailea.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Wai'napanapa State Park

Wai'anapanapa State Park

A breathtaking black sands beach is as rare as the beauty that Maui exudes. This remote, beautiful volcanic coastline is a must-see along the Road to Hana. Other exciting features at Wai'anapanapa State Park include a natural stone arch, a cave, lava tubes, and blow holes. Wai'anapanapa State Park is approximately 63 miles from Grand Wailea Maui.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Iao Valley

Iao Valley State Park

Iao Valley is located just west of Wailuku and is home to one of Maui's most famous landmarks - the 1,200-foot Iao Needle. This iconic rock is breathtaking, so make sure to get an early start to your day for the best view before the clouds roll-in in the afternoon. The park is approximately 20 miles from Grand Wailea Maui and is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, HI - Twin Falls

Twin Falls

Along the Road to Hana, Twin Falls is a recommended worthy stop. It's the first easily accessible string of pools and waterfalls along the adventurous drive that you will pass. Be sure to bring your swimsuit, as this a great location for a refreshing dip. Plus, there is a delicious farm stand where you can purchase snacks including banana bread and a pineapple smoothie.
